Orchard work parties

Our work parties are fun, social and productive – come and join us! Details of upcoming work parties are listed here, with general info about work parties below.

Sunday 30th June, 11am – 1pm

This week we’ll be working on fencing the tree rows to keep them safe from the cattle – knocking in chestnut posts, marking out lines, hammering in rebar, and attaching little plastic insulators to the rebar posts.

Sunday 21st July, 11am – 1pm

Scything special! For all those of you who would like to practice your new scything skills in the orchard, cutting grass, wildflowers (and more docks than we’d care to admit) along the tree rows. We’ll also be raking up cut vegetation, mulching trees, and potentially continuing with fencing work…

General info for work parties

Everyone is welcome – no experience necessary. Please come and join for as long or as little as you like, and take it at any pace that works for you. Kids are welcome, but you must take full responsibility for any children you bring with you.

Do wrap up warm (or bring sun cream and a hat), bring snacks and drinks if you think you’ll need them, and bear in mind that the orchard site is pretty exposed. I’ll do my best to provide some flapjacks to keep us fuelled up.

We generally have all the tools we need on site, but if you would like to work with your favourite spade or secateurs, please bring them along.

It’s helpful if you can text or email to let me know you’re coming so I have a rough idea of numbers. If you need directions, have any questions, or want to check we’re there on the day if the weather is dodgy, please do get in touch.
