Orchard work parties

Our work parties are fun, social and productive – come and join us! Details of upcoming work parties are listed here, with general info about work parties below.

Sunday 7th June, 10:30am – 1pm

Lots of option this month, as we’re still working our way through the last tree row adjusting tree guards, adding hessian wrap, and weeding, plus we’ll be making a start on scything in earnest, and there’s work to be done in our little tree nursery too. Something for everyone!

Sunday 12 July, 10:30am – 1pm

We might be putting our new shed in place by the time this work party comes around, and either way, there will be loads of scything to do. Just about anyone can learn to use a scythe, and you’re welcome to practice on our grass and wildflowers! For those who don’t fancy wielding a scythe, there is lots of raking to do behind the scythers, and likely work in the tree nursery too.

Sunday 9th August, 10:30 – 1pm

Summer scything extravaganza – all hands on deck!

General info for work parties

Everyone is welcome – no experience necessary. Please come and join for as long or as little as you like, and take it at any pace that works for you. Kids are welcome, but you must take full responsibility for any children you bring with you.

Do wrap up warm (or bring sun cream and a hat), bring snacks and drinks if you think you’ll need them, and bear in mind that the orchard site is pretty exposed. I’ll do my best to provide some flapjacks to keep us fuelled up.

We generally have all the tools we need on site, but if you would like to work with your favourite spade or secateurs, please bring them along.

It’s helpful if you can text or email to let me know you’re coming so I have a rough idea of numbers. If you need directions, have any questions, or want to check we’re there on the day if the weather is dodgy, please do get in touch.
