Orchard work parties

Our work parties are fun, social and productive – come and join us! Details of upcoming work parties are listed here, with general info about work parties below.

Sunday 6th April, 10:30 – 1pm

This month we’re hoping to finish our winter pruning rounds, giving each tree a little tlc. This includes adjusting guards, sometimes a spot of weeding or some mulching, maybe replacing a missing labels and making sure each tree is comfortable for the growing season ahead.

Sunday 11th May, 10.30am – 1pm

This will be our first scything session of the year, aiming to slow down the docks in their bid for world domination. If you have a scythe, do bring it along. If you’d like to learn, come and have a go or brush up your skills with one of our scythes. If you’d prefer to steer clear of scything, there is plenty of raking and mulching to do!

General info for work parties

Everyone is welcome – no experience necessary. Please come and join for as long or as little as you like, and take it at any pace that works for you. Kids are welcome, but you must take full responsibility for any children you bring with you.

Do wrap up warm (or bring sun cream and a hat), bring snacks and drinks if you think you’ll need them, and bear in mind that the orchard site is pretty exposed. I’ll do my best to provide some flapjacks to keep us fuelled up.

We generally have all the tools we need on site, but if you would like to work with your favourite spade or secateurs, please bring them along.

It’s helpful if you can text or email to let me know you’re coming so I have a rough idea of numbers. If you need directions, have any questions, or want to check we’re there on the day if the weather is dodgy, please do get in touch.
