Orchard work parties

Our work parties are fun, social and productive – come and join us! Details of upcoming work parties are listed here, with general info about work parties below.

Sunday 9th November, 10:30 – 1pm

This will be our last scything session of the year! If you’d like to flex your scything muscles, or have a try for the first time, please come and join us. It could be fairly tough going as we have older, tougher stems to mow. But we are also always in need of people to rake up the cut material, and this month we’re also looking for someone or some two people happy to wield a clipboard and continue the audit of the trees.

Saturday 13th December, 10:30am – 1pm

This will be the first of our wintery work parties. More info closer to the time, but it could include tree planting, or otherwise, we’ll be on pruning, and adjusting guards.

Sunday 18th January 2026, 10:30am – 1pm

First work party of the new year! More info closer to the time, but likely to include either tree planting or pruning and guarding existing trees.

Saturday 7th February, 10:30 – 1pm

We’ll be continuing our wintery work with pruning, adjusting guards and generally giving the trees some tender loving care.

General info for work parties

Everyone is welcome – no experience necessary. Please come and join for as long or as little as you like, and take it at any pace that works for you. Kids are welcome, but you must take full responsibility for any children you bring with you.

Do wrap up warm (or bring sun cream and a hat), bring snacks and drinks if you think you’ll need them, and bear in mind that the orchard site is pretty exposed. I’ll do my best to provide some flapjacks to keep us fuelled up.

We generally have all the tools we need on site, but if you would like to work with your favourite spade or secateurs, please bring them along.

It’s helpful if you can text or email to let me know you’re coming so I have a rough idea of numbers. If you need directions, have any questions, or want to check we’re there on the day if the weather is dodgy, please do get in touch.
