Twenty Trees Challenge

Twenty Trees Challenge – Oakbrook Farm

Sunday 17th March – 11am – 3pm

We are very grateful to have funding from the Tree Council to plant and guard another 20 trees in the orchard this spring. Now we need to get those trees planted… so, here’s the Twenty Trees Challenge!

With enough hands on deck I reckon we can plant, guard and even mulch all 20 new trees in one short volunteer day. In the past we’ve only managed maximum 15 trees in a day. But the new system of flying cactus guards is much quicker to install than the double guards, and this year all our trees are only one year old, so they have smaller roots, meaning smaller holes to dig.

I already have the markers in place to show where the trees need to go, and the trees are, of course, already on site in our little nursery. Before the day of the challenge, I’ll lay out guards and stakes next to each tree planting spot. So all we have to do on the grand day is crack on with the planting.

Are you up for the challenge?

Everyone is welcome – no experience necessary. Please come and join for as long or as little as you like, and take it at any pace that works for you. Kids are welcome, but you must take full responsibility for any children you bring with you.

Do wrap up warm, bring snacks, picnic and drinks if you think you’ll need them, and bear in mind that the orchard site is pretty exposed. I’ll do my best to provide some flapjacks to keep us fuelled up.

We generally have all the tools we need on site, but you might want to bring your own work gloves.

It’s helpful if you can text or email to let me know you’re coming so I have a rough idea of numbers. If you need directions, have any questions, or want to check we’re there on the day if the weather is dodgy, please do get in touch.
