Oakbrook Orchard Wassail 2025

Sunday 5th January 2025

2:30pm – 5pm

singing – fire – apple juice – procession – craft – words – community – noise – ceremony

Join us for a traditional and noisy celebration to bless the orchard, wake the trees, and ask for a good harvest in the year ahead.

Gather at the barn from 2:30pm, where we’ll start with mulled apple juice and snacks, make braids from scrap fabric, and have a chance to learn some wassail songs together with Mel Golding and members of her choir.

We’ll process together to the orchard from around 3pm, making lots of noise to wake the trees. There will be a short ceremony with a few words, some wassail songs, time to tie our braids to the trees, and an offering of apple juice for the trees. There will be a contribution from Valerie Coffin Price, artist in residence at the Gingerbread House.

Back at the barn there will be time to chat by the fire, and enjoy more juice and refreshments.

Details of timings may change depending on the weather; there will be indoor space available through the afternoon.

Everyone welcome – family friendly.

Bring shakers, drums, pan lids or instruments to make some noise.

This event is free. Donations towards the cost of refreshments are gratefully received.

Organised in collaboration with the Growing Places project and Oakbrook Farm.
